A farm, named Hometown Farm, has seen some unusual young farmers coming to plant vegetables and raise animals since 2012. The farm is at Jingxi county and 25km from the city of Fuzhou. It has 13 hectares of farmland and 20 hectares of woodland

The farm’s owner is the Rural Development Center of Renming University of China. It’s giving chances for university students to develop green agriculture. They can help the farmers plant green vegetables when they return to their hometown. The farm also wants to grow green vegetables to the local people.

Lin Zezhong, the first new student farmer there, farms 0.67 hectares of farmland at zero rent for the first three years of his contract. Ever since then, he has lived a farmer life by spending most of the day working on his farm, a life different from his friends' in the city. However, he thinks that is a good way to improve the food safety and encourage people to care about agriculture. Because of the green planting ways used on the farm, the young man saw a poor harvest of vegetables resulting from pests and bad weather. Although people around don’t understand him, he is still full of hope for his work.

"You just see my loss", he said, "You can't see the great future in my heart".
