Long ago, there was a beautiful garden where children played every day. Birds sang sweet songs, and flowers danced in the gentle breeze (微风). But one day, the garden’s owner—a giant—returned. He shouted, “This is MY garden!” and built a tall wall to keep the children out.
Without the children’s laughter, spring never came to the garden. Snow, frost, and the cold North Wind ruled instead. Trees forgot to bloom, and flowers hid underground. The giant wondered why his garden stayed frozen while spring warmed the rest of the world.
Years passed. One morning, the giant heard birds singing again. He looked outside and saw children sneaking (溜) in through a hole in the wall! Wherever they played, flowers grew, and trees blossomed. But in one corner, a small boy cried—he couldn’t reach the tree branches. The giant’s heart melted. He helped the boy climb the tree and tore down the wall. “This garden is yours forever, children!” he declared.
From then on, the giant played with the children daily. The flowers and birds came back. But the little boy who first changed his mind never returned. The giant missed him a lot. He used to ask the other children about him, but they did not know who he was or where he lived.
One winter day, the giant saw the boy again, now with a pair of wings. “Come to my garden in heaven,” the boy said with a smile. When the children later found the giant, he lay peacefully (安详地) under a tree, his body covered in blossoms.
