On May 24, 2020, a heavy storm hit Western Australia. Strong wind made big waves. The speed of the wind was more than 60 mph. The waves were 26 feet high.
The storm damaged many houses. In Perth, 65,000 houses were without electricity. Many people called the emergency services. People needed help. However, it was not possible to fix(修理) the electricity network in the strong wind. In Geraldton, strong wind made a dust storm. People could not see anything in the dust.
Such storms were not usual in Western Australia. Weather experts said that such storms came once every 10 years. A tropical storm met cold air. The result was a rare and very heavy storm.
