Many young children don’t like greens. It is difficult for parents to get their children to eat vegetables like green beans. Children do not eat healthily. So parents worry a lot about it. A new study finds out why. The study looks at the eating habits of some children. They are all of 2 to 4 years old. It finds that two genes(基因) can make children not like vegetables. The genes can make some small children hate new food, so they become fussy eaters(挑食的人).
The genes also make small children taste things differently. Children think many green vegetables taste bitter(味苦的). For example, green beans are bitter for them. Natasha Cole, a scientist studying obesity(肥胖) says this is not surprising. Children are more sensitive(敏感的) to taste.
Ms Cole thinks the new study can help to find new ways of fighting obesity in children. But there needs to be more studies. How can a child move fast and well from drinking milk to eating foods, like rice, meat and vegetables? We need to know more about that.
