Recently, China made a big step in 6G technology. Purple Mountain Laboratories in Nanjing showed the world’s first outdoor 6G test network. This happened at the Global 6G Conference 2025.
The new 6G network works much better than 5G. It is over 10 times faster! Scientists used three drones (无人机) to test it. Workers could see the drones’ real-time movements on screens. The screens showed exact positions, speeds, and heights of the drones.
Dr. Huang Yongming explained how it works. The 6G base station sends signals to drones. When signals hit the drones, they bounce back. Computers then study these signals to find the drones’ locations.
Future 6G won’t just be fast — it can “see” things too! Like radar, it can detect objects up to 1 kilometer away. Professor You Xiaohu said this combines communication and sensing. The same base station can both send messages and find objects.
This technology will help many areas. Delivery drones can fly safer in cities. It can also stop illegal drones in protected areas. The system can track drones while keeping communication with them.
Chinese scientists say this is just the beginning. The 6G test network will support new technologies and future industries. It shows China’s strong ability in creating next-generation communication systems.
