On May 12, Unitree unveiled the GD01, the world’s first production-ready manned transformable mecha, with a starting price of 3.9 million yuan. Founder Wang Xingxing took part in a demonstration. The mecha can serve as a civilian vehicle, weighs about 500 kg with a person inside, walks like a humanoid robot in upright mode, knocks down a solid brick wall with a single punch, and folds from humanoid form into a four-legged mode within seconds — seamlessly and while still carrying the operator. The company cautioned that humanoid robots are still at an early exploratory stage, and individual buyers should fully understand their limitations before purchasing.
