Summer is the season for peaches. But how can you pick the best ones and keep them fresh? Here are some practical tips.
Step 1: Choose the right type
Some peaches are crisp and hard, while others are soft and full of juice. Think about what taste or texture you like before you buy.
Step 2: Check the color
Look at the area under the red skin — the “base color”. A ripe peach is usually milky (如奶般的) white or yellow there. If it is still green, the fruit is not ready to eat.
Step 3: Look at the shape
Pick peaches that are round and full. Avoid ones with cuts, soft spots, or wrinkles (皱痕) on the skin.
Step 4: Feel the peach
Gently press near the top. A ripe soft peach should feel slightly soft but not too soft. If it is very hard, leave it at room temperature for one or two days. Certain varieties, however, are meant to stay firm.
Step 5: Smell it
A ripe peach has a sweet, natural smell. If it smells like wine, do not buy it.
