A seven-year-old boy named Sameer Santana has become a real-life hero. He is a second-grade student at a primary school in Rhode Island.
On April 9, Sameer was having snack with his classmates. Suddenly, he saw his classmate Jabril choking on a piece of apple. At that moment, the teacher planned to ask for help and keep other students calm. Sameer acted right away.
He ran to Jabril and used the Heimlich maneuver (海姆立克急救法). He learned this life-saving skill when he was in kindergarten health class. Soon, the apple slice came out, and Jabril became safe again.
Sameer’s mother was greatly surprised. She never thought her 7-year-old son could stay calm and save others under stress.
Later, the town held a special celebration for Sameer. Firefighters, police officers and local leaders all joined the event. He got a Citizen’s Award. The school principal also praised his bravery and quick action. Everyone is proud of this young hero.
