On September 21st and 22nd, at 7 PM each night, Dao Lang held his first concert of 2024 in Chengdu’s Phoenix Mountain Sports Park Stadium. In the stadium, there were 18,000 fans. Outside, countless others waited, unable to get tickets despite their love for Dao Lang.
The concert started with a short video featuring Sichuan opera and pretty views. Dao Lang began with part of the song “Impulsive Punishment”. He sang it quietly without music, inspiring everyone to sing along. When he sang “Kashgar Populus euphratica”, just like twelve years ago, Dao Lang couldn’t help crying. During “A Wandering Child In Life and Death”, he was once again brought to tears.
In total, Dao Lang performed 21 songs, each encouraging a passionate sing-along. His tears while singing “Kashgar Populus euphratica” were partly because of feelings he kept inside, but mostly out of love for his fans. Dao Lang cried on the stage, fans cried in the audience, and online users cried in front of their screens.
The success of Dao Lang’s concert in Chengdu was not just about music. It was also a result of cultural, economic and policy efforts. Chengdu was the first stop of Dao Lang’s 2024 “Where the Mountain Songs Ring” tour. He will also go to Guangzhou, Nanjing, and Macau.
