At around 9:28 a.m., the police officers received a report. It said that a car had gone over an embankment (路堤). The call came from a man. He was worried about his brother, Brandon Garrett, who had failed to arrive at their camp the day before. Family members had discovered his car in the morning but could not reach it because of the difficult road conditions.
The police officers rushed to the place. Sheriff Ash was among the first to arrive. He found the car, along with one of Garrett’s dogs, in a very deep and narrow ravine (沟壑). As he searched for a way to get there, Sheriff Ash heard a call for help. Garrett was located alive about 900 meters from the car. He provided first aid right away.
With the help of volunteers, the officers began the task of reaching Garrett. After preparation, the team saved Garrett in a basket and used a rope to pull him across the ravine to safety. Then he was airlifted to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Garrett had been travelling north on the road with his four dogs when he failed to make a turn, causing the accident. Luckily, one of his dogs managed to travel nearly four miles back to their camp. The dog shouted at the family. They knew that something was wrong with Garrett. They followed the dog and finally found him and his car.
