A man died in the water after he saved a 12-year-old boy in the sea. He was a New York City policeman. His name is Jose, 44 years old.

Jose was on a holiday with his family when he saw the boy in danger on Saturday. He helped the boy get on a rock but a wave took him away. His wife and two children were there and saw it happened. People found his body on Monday. 

"He really died a hero," his sister Helen said. "He didn't think twice about it." His daughter Anais wrote that her father was the "most amazing person in the world, he would do anything for anyone". 

Friends said that Jose saved another child not far from the same place three years ago. Jose worked as a policeman in Manhattan, he became a policeman 20 years ago.
