A man has been arrested because of kidnapping a six-year-old girl in England. The girl was taken by a man, possibly in a large dark-coloured car, from Nairne Street in the Lancashire town at about 4pm on Thursday.

She was dropped off three miles away in Whitefield Street, Hapton, where she was found. After she was returned home, police were called. It is thought she was with the man for around 20 minutes.

A 33-year-old man from Accrington has now been arrested, but police knows little about the kidnapping. Officers are continuing to look for information about the incident.

A policeman named McHugh said: "We need anyone who may have witnessed a black coloured car in the Nairne Street or Whitefield Street areas around the time to contact us. If anyone knows anything about this incident at all, please call us on 101. People can also contact on 0800 555 111 or online at Crimestoppers-uk.org. "
