A dog missing half his face makes an incredible recovery. Now, Apollo is out of surgery and may have found a forever home. “His story just really captured the heart of Houstonians,” said Angela Madeksho, with A.D.O.R.E. Houston. It’s hard to believe this is the dog KHOU-TV first reported on back in January.

“People have said, ‘Oh, how can you keep him alive, he is going through so much pain?',” said Brittany Faske, who rescued Apollo on the streets of south Houston. “We suspect that his injury was human who did that,” said Madeksho.

Since then, Apollo's pulled through a very long surgery to reconstruct his nose. “We were able to use the part of the skin that was healthy that was still there,” said Madeksho.

Even more amazing are the donations pouring in from social media. “We have had people reach out to us from the UK, from Ireland, Japan, Australia,” said Madeksho. All this attention is helping save other dogs like Arabella. She was found malnourished and neglected but is now getting the help she needs because someone saw Apollo's story.

“When you look at him, you might be a little put off at first, but he has a heart of gold,” said Faske. Faske is now raising Apollo, hoping to adopt. “The whole time he has been just excited, excited that someone was loving him,” said Faske. A.D.O.R.E. Houston says Apollo is now it's official ambassador. They hope he can help raise awareness for abused and neglected animals.
