Very often, students choose a high school for academic reasons and not social ones. So, the cultural make-up of a student-housing environment can be unlike any that they have experienced before. We may not feel comfortable at first, but once we get to know people with different cultural backgrounds and life experiences, it broadens our perspective (看法) of the world around us.

Learning how to live with other people

Up to this point in our lives, most of us have only experienced living with people that we share a common DNA with or even close friends. When you must adapt to living with someone that you have just met hours or even minutes before, it gives you an opportunity to learn how to be less selfish (自私的) about how you share your space with another human being. You both need to adjust your time to the schedule so it can suits both of you. It also means being more aware of the material things that surround you and how they affect other people.

Close proximity to campus

Living in or very near the school in student housing gives you a much more convenient schedule where you only have to schedule the time it takes you to walk from your dorm (宿舍) to a classroom. There are no worries that heavy traffic will make you late for class. Think of how much more time you can organize around studying as opposed to traveling to get to school each week.
