It’s 2023 now. For the last 6 years, third grade students at a primary school in British Columbia have performed acts of kindness for people in Chilliwack. It’s part of Watson Elementary’s Kindness Project.

The project first started back 6 years ago when teacher Jen Thiessen and another teacher Kyla Stradling came up with the idea. Over the years, either one or two Grade 3 classes from Watson would take it on. But, this year five classes took part (all the Grade 3 students, and some kids in Grades 2 and 4), making it the biggest one ever. The students raise money for the project by selling cupcakes. This year they raised $1,400. Then they go to local parks and hand out flowers, chocolates, coffee and dog treats to strangers. Some stay back and put together care packages(爱心包裹) for homeless people.

Each of the goodies given out that day came with a card with a sentence on one side, written by Kevin Heath: “No act of kindness is too small. The gift of kindness may start as a small ripple (涟漪) that over time can turn into a tidal wave(浪潮) changing the lives of many.” And it worked.

“Kindness coffee is always the best,” one woman said, adding that she was going to buy someone else a cup of coffee. No more than 10 minutes later, a man came up to Thiessen and handed her a $20 bill. “This is for next year’s project,” he said.

1.When did the project start?

A In 2014.

B In 2015.

C In 2016.

D In 2017.

根据第二段第一句的“The project first started back 6 years ago”可知,这个项目开始于(2023-6=)2017年。故选D。

2.Who didn’t take part in the project this year?

A Grade 3 students.

B Grade 2 students.

C Grade 5 students.

D Grade 4 students.

根据第二段的“all the Grade 3 students, and some kids in Grades 2 and 4”可知,所有三年级的学生,以及一些二年级和四年级的学生参加了本次项目,没有提到五年级的学生。故选C。

3.Why did they give out the goodies with a card?

A To encourage others to show kindness.

B To let more people know the school.

C To send their best wishes to others.

D To ask people to give out food.

解析:选A。 根据卡片上写的“No act of kindness is too small.”和“over time can turn into a tidal wave affecting the lives of many”可知,任何善举都不会太小,善举可能最开始只能荡起一波涟漪,但是随着时间的推移,它可能会演变成改变许多人生活的浪潮。 故选A。

4.How did the writer explain the underlined sentence?

A By making comparisons.

B By giving examples.

C By telling a story.

D By showing some numbers.

5.What can we lean from this passage?

A A good heart is the sun.

B Never too old to learn.

C A bad thing never dies.

D Better early than late.

解析:选A。 故选A。
