People pleasers always want to make others happy and forget about their own feelings. In fact, people-pleasing is unhealthy. Overcoming(战胜) people-pleasing can be done by changing a few habits. Here are 3 things a people pleaser should practice to change.

1. Stop saying sorry.

Saying sorry is my first action when things go awry. If you’re a people-pleaser too, the minute something goes wrong, you probably jump to say sorry. Before you say sorry, stop and look at the situation. If you are wrong, say you’re sorry. However, if you aren’t, don’t say sorry.

2.       ▲

It is easy to say yes to everything. Overcoming people-pleasing includes understanding that you can say no and mean it. Saying no may be hard, but the more you say it, the more you understand how important it is to say.

3. Speak up.

People pleasers like to agree with others. We are quiet, listening, waiting to agree with whatever decision is reached. Many times, I simply stayed quiet and agreed, even when I really didn’t like whatever the plans were. But I became unhappy because I was working on something I didn’t agree with. Overcoming people-pleasing needs learning to really use your voice—even if it means shouting to be heard.

It’s not easy to go against a nature. As you work on overcoming people-pleasing, you’ll fall into old patterns(方式). I do—often. The best part is that we can get a new day to try all over again.

1.The underlined phrase “go awry” has the same meaning as “________________”.

A feel bad

B go wrong

C keep quiet

D taste good

根据划线部分后面的“If you’re a people-pleaser too, the minute something goes wrong, you probably jump to say sorry.”

2.What can be put back into the “ ▲ ”?

A Encourage yourself.

B Accept yourself.

C Be independent.

D Keep saying no.

第三段主要描述了学会拒绝的重要性,结合关键词汇“you can say no”“Saying no”以及“the more you say it”可知,作者在本段给出的建议是“坚持拒绝”。故选D。

3.How does the writer feel when he/she doesn’t really use his/her voice?

A Sad.

B Excited.

C Comfortable.

D Angry.

解析:选A。 根据第四段倒数第二句“But I became unhappy because I was working on something I didn’t agree with.” 故选A。

4.What is the structure of the passage? (①=Para.1 ②=Para.2 ③=Para.3 …)

A ①②③/④/⑤

B ①/②③④/⑤

C ①/②③/④⑤

D ①②/③/④⑤

5.What is the passage mainly about?

A 3 things a people pleaser should practice to change.

B 3 ways to see whether you are a people pleaser.

C 3 reasons why you are a people pleaser.

D 3 good things of being a people pleaser.

解析:选A。 根据本文中心句“Here are 3 things a people pleaser should practice to change.” 故选A。
