开学啦!如何缓解开学焦虑?

Many kids may feel anxious about going back to school after a long summer break. It’s normal and understandable. There are some tips for dealing with the stress and anxiety.

Know the rules

Understand the rules that the school has in place. What happens if kids are late for class? Are electronic devices allowed? What are the dress requirements for school? Pay attention to parents meetings and understand the culture of the school. Your understanding will help them do well at school.

Be positive

One way to help ease stress about going back to school is to remind your kids about what makes going to school great. Aside from learning new things and participating in after-school activities, there is a lot that is good about school. There are also friends, teachers, and staff members they haven’t seen in a while.

Get your family together and make a list of things kids need before heading off to school. Thinking about beautiful new backpacks, book covers, and pens can actually make kids excited to start the new year.

Build a worry wall

Help kids express their anxieties by creating a “worry wall.” Give them a stack of sticky notes(便利贴), have them write one worry per note, and stick them up on the wall. Remind them that once their worries have been put up on the wall, they don’t have to think about them anymore. To really banish their anxiety, create an “optimism wall”: write a positive note for each worry note. And once the optimism wall is created, tear down the worry wall, because it doesn’t matter anymore!

Talk with other families

Sometimes it also helps to reach out to other families with kids of the same age. Are they having the same kinds of stress? Do they have advice for your family that you maybe didn’t think of? If the kids are friends, playing together before school starts might get them excited to start school together.

3.What does the underlined word “banish” in Paragraph 5 mean?

A Go in for.

B Get rid of.

C Run up against.

D Look forward to.

解析:选B。B词义猜测题。根据划线部分后面的“tear down the worry wall, because it doesn’t matter anymore!”可知,一旦你的“乐观之墙”建立起来,就可以拆掉“忧虑之墙”,这样可以帮助孩子处理(get rid of)焦虑。故选D。

4.What’s the purpose of the passage?
