A brave boy dressed up as his favorite superheroes during a three-year fight with cancer. To the surprise of the people around the boy, he has been recovered and the doctors say that no dangerous signals can be detected. 

Ramsey Mercer is eight years old. When he received his chemotherapy he was allowed to wear costumes including Superman, Captain America and Batman. His mum Adelle believes dressing up gave her son courage to get through his suffering. She said: “I think it made him feel brave. One of the first things he said to his dad Ralph when he was coming to visit him in hospital was ‘Don’t forget my Spartacus suit’. As he loves those superheroes, he is much fond of dressing up like his superheroes. It was helpful to him, really. He’s been every single one of them – Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Captain America, Spartacus and the Hulk. The only one not in his size was Thor. I’m still on the lookout for it. He would be very happy to have the right size and have a change. He’s my little hero. He was amazing through it all and I’m very proud of him.”

Ramsey had his final dose of chemotherapy on November 19. Days later, doctors told his family he had beaten the disease.

The P4 pupil, from Easter Ross, Scotland, is now looking forward to his first cancer-free year since he started primary one.

His mum said: “When I look back at the first day we were told about his disease, we just thought, ‘How are we going to get through?’ We were in despair. But it just becomes a way of life. When it’s your child, you just do what you can to overcome the difficulties. Ramsey has been amazing. He just deals with everything happily. He has been really brave.”
