Jia Juntingxian was born in Pingxiang city, Jiangxi province in 1986. When she was 10 months old, she was found to have sight problems. At grade one in primary school, when the teacher told students to look at the blackboard, Jia could not see anything. That was the time she found herself different from others.

Since that moment, Jia would often feel gloomy, and every time her mother noticed, she would hug Jia and say some comforting words. “My baby girl, as long as you put in enough effort, you can do anything other people can do,” she would say. Jia still remembers she used her hand to touch her mother’s face, and it felt wet.

Jia showed a talent for sport at primary school, and won championships(冠军) in long jump and shotput(铅球), but she always wanted to be free to run at speed like other students. Jia went to a special school for her junior high school education. In 2002, she met a coach who was looking for sportswomen. She then went to Nanchang, where she learned to run. After just a year, Jia took part in the sixth National Games for the Disabled. She then joined the national team.

In 2017, Jia retired and chose to become a teacher at a special education school in Pingxiang. After working for several years, Jia came to realize how little some disabled children knew about special education. So she decided to pay more attention to it. “I have got so much help since childhood. I want to pass on the kindness to others,” says Jia.
