Emma Lyon was with her family and friends on the river bank during a boat race in the River Great Ouse on Saturday. As usual, she was wearing her grandmother’s wedding ring. The gold ring is about 100 years old.

“I was cheering for a group of boys and clapping(鼓掌) vigorously when all of a sudden, the ring flew off my finger and into the river,” Emma said. “Although the boys won their race, the ring was lost.”

On Sunday evening, Emma turned to the Bedford Scuba Divers, a diving club. On Monday evening, the ring was found and returned to Emma. Emma described the event as “a total miracle(奇迹)” and took the divers out for a thank-you drink at a local pub afterwards.

“The ring belonged to my grandmother, who died in 2000 aged 100. She would always like to stay by the river for a while sometimes. So I did think that if we couldn’t find the ring, it had ended up in a right resting place. I really thank everyone from the club for giving up their evening to help out. And I just cannot believe that Matt was able to find it. It was a total miracle,” said Emma.
