上海首家“动物方舱”,疫情下的温情与守护

Some pets lost their homes during the latest COVID-19 outbreak in Shanghai. Their owners have COVID-19 or are close contacts, so they can’t look after their pets. To solve the problem, Shanghai’s first pet care center downtown opened on May 7. The center accepts these pets.

The center has two rooms, and it can hold around 40 dogs and 10 cats in cages(笼子). Workers of the center feed these pets twice a day, clean them, and take the dogs for walks.

“An official(官员) got in touch with me and hoped that I could help take care of pets whose owners were under quarantine(隔离) earlier this month. As an animal lover, I am glad to hear that,” said Zhai Jiang, head of the pet caring volunteer association and Babala Pet Hospital.

After discussing the matter with his team, Zhai decided to offer free pet care services to these owners. “I hope more neighborhoods can see what we are doing, and I am willing to guide them for free,” Zhai said. He added that the difficulty is that the size and number of cages are limited(有限的) now.

After learning about the pet care center, Qiu Ying, a person living in the Huangpu district, said: “I think what the center did is very heart-warming. I hope that every neighborhood can provide such services.”
