CCTV.com News: A recent study by researchers from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has revealed, for the first time, that certain volatile elements were lost due to the South Pole-Aitken basin impact event on the far side of the Moon approximately 4.25 billion years ago, based on analyses of basaltic samples collected by the Chang'e-6 mission from the lunar far side. This discovery offers crucial scientific clues for understanding the effects of large impact events on lunar evolution and explaining the geological differences between the Moon's near and far sides. The findings were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America on the 13th.
