A Chongqing girl nicknamed "Daidai" has unintentionally become an online sensation after her Jan. 9 video inviting helpers for a traditional pig-slaughtering event at her home went viral. Instead of a few volunteers, over 4,000 people from across China flocked to her village in Hechuan District by Jan. 12.
The related videos have garnered 80 million views, with her livestreams receiving 20 million likes. Local authorities, including the Hechuan culture and tourism department, stepped in to manage the crowds. Officials confirmed that while Daidai’s event concluded on Jan. 12, local restaurants will continue offering similar traditional dining experiences.
