A retirement ceremony for four world champions—Chen Qingchen, Zheng Siwei, Huang Yaqiong, and Liu Yuchen—was held by the Chinese Badminton Association (CBA) on December 21, following the conclusion of the BWF World Tour Finals.
The 28-year-old Zheng Siwei and 31-year-old Huang Yaqiong, known to fans as the “Yasi” pair, won three BWF World Championships mixed doubles titles, two Sudirman Cup titles, two Asian Games mixed doubles gold medals, four BWF World Tour Finals titles, and an Olympic gold medal last year. Just last month, they also claimed a title for Zhejiang Province at the 15th National Games.
Chen Qingchen, 28, a top women’s doubles player, also claimed Olympic gold last year. Teaming up with Jia Yifan, she has secured four BWF World Championships women’s doubles titles, along with four Sudirman Cup titles, three Uber Cup titles, two Asian Games women’s doubles gold medals, and three BWF World Tour Finals titles.
Liu Yuchen, 30, a leading shuttler from Beijing, has won one BWF World Championships men’s doubles title, two Sudirman Cup titles, two Thomas Cup titles, two BWF World Tour Finals men’s doubles titles, and two Asian Games men’s team gold medals. In addition, he and his partner Li Junhui claimed an Olympic silver medal in men’s doubles.
