Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II has tested positive for Covid-19, Buckingham Palace announced Sunday. The 95-year-old sovereign(元首)—who is celebrating her 70th year of being a queen—is experiencing cold-like symptoms(症状) which are not serious. She is expected to continue doing some light work at Windsor Castle over the coming week, the palace said. “She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all proper instructions,” it added.
UK media have reported that the Queen is fully vaccinated(接种疫苗). Buckingham Palace earlier confirmed both the queen and her late husband, Prince Philip, had received their first doses of a Covid-19 vaccine in January 2021.
The Queen is not the only person in her circle to test positive for Covid-19. The Queen’s health has been closely paid attention to since late last year. At that time she moved away from public events because doctors advised her to rest after an overnight hospital stay, for which the reason hadn’t been given. New concern appeared in the past few days as many family members self-isolated(自我隔离) after testing positive for the virus. Prince Charles, the oldest son of the queen, tested positive for Covid-19 for a second time 10 days ago while his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, confirmed she too had the virus on Monday.
The Queen attended a public event again at the beginning of February, after the several months’ rest. However, days after that she tested positive for Covid-19. She has made plans to attend a number of important events next month. While all are still a few weeks away, the Queen’s positive Covid-19 test may put her ▲ in doubt.
