It is 2025 now. Dr. Mohammad Saiyedul Islam was born in Bangladesh. He works at Sanming University in Fujian now. He has spent most of his life in public service.

Seven years ago, Islam came to China for the first time to study at Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JUFE). To know more about this young man, Islam traveled in 2023 to Liaoning province, the birthplace of Lei Feng’s spirit. At Fushun’s Lei Feng Memorial Hall, he studied the soldier’s diaries and belongings, moved by his quote (语录): “Human life is finite, but service to the people is infinite.” Islam was deeply moved by this quote and wanted to spread Lei Feng’s spirit beyond China. So on Lei Feng Day that year, he launched the “Learn from Lei Feng” initiative (倡议) across five nations.

Now at Sanming University, Dr. Islam leads the Lei Feng International Volunteer Team, bringing together 36 Chinese and international teachers and students from 10 countries. His work shows that when people worldwide do small kind acts together, they can make the world kinder.
