Scientists found a new kind of frog in northern NSW. It keeps tadpoles(蝌蚪) in its body. The small frog is just 16mm and is found on a mountain in the Wollumbin National Park.

Scientists from a university and a museum know what it is now. They used genetic(基因的) tests to tell it from another frog called Assa darlingtoni. 

The frogs are usually called “pouched” or “hip pocket” frogs. “The hip pocket frog is not only special for its amazing biology(生物学) among Australian frogs, but it is also special among frogs of the world,” said Professor Michael Mahony from the University of Newcastle. Scientists ask the NSW government to protect the very small frog.

“This discovery(发现) shows just how much we don’t know about the world around us, with this very small 16mm frog found on just a mountain in the Wollumbin National Park,” said NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean. “The number of hip pocket frogs is very small. So they are very useful and important. And the NSW Government moves quickly to protect these tiny animals.”
