Be positive and  focus on the future. Kids don't get everything they want, but they don't let it bother them. Sure, they cry like the world is ending at first, but they quickly move on. In fact, they'll probably be laughing in a couple minutes like nothing bad has ever happened to them. Your attitude in retirement will be key to how happy you are during your free days. 

You can be happy whether you are rich or poor. I love seeing my kids play with the box that the toys came in, because it reminds me that having fun is the most important. It doesn’t depend on if you are rich or poor. A big goal of retirement planning is to at least keep our standard of living, So remember that we will be fine spending much less when we are working. Then we can have more money after retirement.

Never stop learning, and be eager to try new things. My kids are very happy when they learn something new. It's actually fun to try something new, as long as you don't worry too much about it. Children don't worry about how it will turn out and whether they are any good at something. It will keep you energetic and young, which is a must for those pursuing a happy retirement.
