Celebrities have popularized all sorts of outlandish diet trends over the years. One of the latest trends among celebrities is the “Omad” diet. Instead of only fasting certain days or only eating your meals during a specific time window, people following Omad eat all their day’s calories in one single, large meal.

One study so far has looked at the effect of Omad in humans. In this study, participants were given the same number of calories to eat each day for the study’s duration. For half of the study, participants ate these calories in a single meal, before switching and eating their daily calories split into three meals per day. Each meal pattern was only followed for an 11-day period — not very long at all. The one meal was taken between 5 pm and 7 pm. Only 11 participants completed the study.

When participants ate just one meal per day, they saw a greater reduction in their body weight and fat mass. However, participants also had greater reductions in lean mass and bone density (密度) when eating just one meal a day. This could lead to reduced muscle function and greater risk of bone fractures (骨折) if the diet was to be followed for a longer period. But animal studies looking at the effects of Omad have shown     ▲     results, with research showing mice who ate one large meal a day actually gained more weight compared to those who ate multiple meals.

While these results may indicate that Omad could have benefits for some aspects of health, there’s still a lot we don’t know about it. It will be important for future studies to investigate the effect of Omad in a larger number of participants and in other groups of people (as this study only included lean, young adults). It will also be important for studies to look at the effect of Omad over a longer period of time, and to conduct these trials in a real-life setting.

1.What do supporters of Omad do?

A They hardly eat calories certain days.

B They follow different diet trends.

C They prefer time-restricted eating.

D They have a single meal every day.

根据第一段的“people following Omad eat all their day’s calories in one single, large meal”可知,遵循Omad的人集中在一顿大餐中摄入一天所需的热量。故选D。

2.Which of the following is TRUE about the study?

A The study lasted for 22 days.

B Participants had multiple meals every day.

C 11 participants had one meal before 5 pm every day.

D Half of the participants experienced two meal patterns.

解析:选A。 根据第二段的“For half of the study, participants ate these calories in a single meal, before switching and eating their daily calories split into three meals per day.” 故选A。

3.Which word can be put in the “ ▲ ” in the third paragraph?

A similar

B effective

C conflicting

D significant

根据前文“When participants ate just one meal per day, they saw a greater reduction in their body weight and fat mass.”当参与者每天只吃一顿饭时,他们的体重和脂肪量都减少了很多;再结合“with research showing mice who ate one large meal a day actually gained more weight compared to those who ate multiple meals”研究表明,每天吃一顿大餐的老鼠实际上体重增加得更多。

4.What’s the author’s attitude to the Omad?

A Negative.

B Cautious.

C Favorable.

D Unclear.

根据最后一段中的“there’s still a lot we don’t know about it”“It will be important for future studies...”以及“It will also be important for studies to look at the effect...”
