Primary schools across many places in China are doing something to improve naptime (午休) conditions for students.

Recently, Dongxing Experimental Primary School in Quanzhou, Fujian is popular on the Internet. Why? Because the introduction of adjustable (可调整的) sleep desks has caused great changes in the way that students have a nap. With a simple turn of a knob (旋钮), desks become comfortable beds, allowing students to rest in a proper way, slept with their own pillows (枕头) and blankets.

The Zhengdong New District Longteng Primary School in Zhengzhou, Henan, is another example, where unused classrooms are now naptime rooms complete with bedding, and pillows.

In addition to classroom innovations, Zhengdong New District’s Yongchang Primary School is planning ahead. Unused indoor sports fields and activity rooms are becoming future nap spaces, making sure that students have a comfortable place to rest as the school grows.

In the town of Chashan, Liling, Hunan, Meixia Wanquan Primary School plays an important role for a great number of left-behind children who live too far away to return home for a nap. Here, a charitable (慈善的) organization gave them 130 customized folding beds to make sure every child could have a proper nap.

The new way of napping at school is not only comfortable but also good for health. Medical experts warn against the long-term risks associated with (与…有关系) napping face down, such as increased eye pressure and eye problems. The lying-down way addresses these worries, protecting the children’s health.
