It is 2023. The 14th Lu Xun Teenagers Literature Award ceremony for China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) was held at the Hong Kong Palace Museum on Saturday.

Fifteen teenagers won the top prize, 25 schools won the group award (奖) for being the most actively taking part in schools, and 28 teachers were prized as the best instructors.

This year’s competition in the HKSAR had two categories (类别), namely composition (作文) and calligraphy (书法), for primary and secondary school students and teenagers in the region. To encourage more non-Chinese teenagers to learn Chinese, a non-native language group was specially set up.

A lot of young people in the HKSAR took part in the competition, with 1,263 entries (参赛作品) in the composition category and 1,039 entries in the calligraphy category.

The award, named after the famous 20th-century Chinese writer Lu Xun, was started by his son Zhou Haiying 14 years ago to carry forward the spirit of his father. Zhou Lingfei, Lu Xun’s eldest grandson and chairman and secretary general of Lu Xun Culture Foundation, valued the participants’ spirit of exploration, and expected more fruitful results in the future.
