There are lots of traffic signs on the roads. They tell you what you can do and where you can go. However, there are no traffic signs in the sky. So how is traffic directed in the sky?

Airplane traffic in the air is guided by the air traffic control (ATC) system. Air traffic controllers work at airports and in ATC towers all over the world. They oversee the safe operation of all aircraft.
Air traffic controllers’ job includes helping pilots take off and land safely. They help pilots navigate carefully around bad weather. Air traffic controllers also organize the paths of thousands of flights. They make sure that traffic flows smoothly and airplanes don’t get too close to each other. Moreover, a huge amount of planning is made before the flights take off. With careful pre-flight planning and monitoring by air traffic controllers during flight, most flights land safely without any problems.

1.What is the difference of traffic on the roads and in the sky?

A There are traffic signs on the roads, but none in the sky.

B You can go anywhere in the sky, but can’t on the roads.

C You can do what you want on the roads, but can’t in the sky.

D The traffic in the sky is not guided by a system, but by people on the roads.

解析:选A。 根据第一段第一句话“There are lots of traffic signs on the roads.”和第三句话“However, there are no traffic signs in the sky.”

2.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2?

A It tells what air traffic is.

B It tells how is the traffic directed in the sky.

C It tells what the safe operation of all aircraft is.

D It tells how air traffic controllers work all over the world.

根据第一段最后一句承上启下问“So how is traffic directed in the sky?”以及第二段第一句“Airplane traffic in the air is guided by the air traffic control (ATC) system.”

3.What does air controllers’ job include?

A They help pilots take off and land safely.

B They help pilots navigate carefully around bad weather.

C They organize the paths of thousands of flights.

D All of the above.

根据第三段前三句“Air traffic controllers’ job includes helping pilots take off and land safely. They help pilots navigate carefully around bad weather. Air traffic controllers also organize the paths of thousands of flights.”

4.Why can most flights land safely?

A Because they are very lucky.

B Because traffic flows smoothly.

C Because airplanes don’t get too close to each other.

D Because air traffic controllers made a lot of planning.

根据第三段第六句“With careful pre-flight planning and monitoring by air traffic controllers during flight, most flights land safely without any problems.”

5.What can we learn from the passage?

A Traffic is directed by no one in the sky.

B Air traffic controllers work in the air.

C Traffic controllers’ job is very important.

D Pilots don’t need any help during the good weather.

根据第二段最后一句“They oversee the safe operation of all aircraft.”
