美国青年糖尿病发病率增长达90%

According to UPI, young adults in the United States run a greater risk than the peers in Canada of suffering complications from diabetes.

New research shows that the disparity is rooted in young Americans lack of effective or affordable insurance coverage.

A new study published Tuesday in the Journal of General Internal Medicine found that the hospitalization rate for diabetic ketoacidosis rose by 90% among teenagers in the United States entering adulthood, while young adults in Canada had a 23hospitalization rate under the same condition.

The study author, Steffie Woolhandler, said in a news release, "From other studies, we know that thousands die each year because they're uninsured, and millions skip their medications because of the costs."
