习近平主席在庆祝改革开放40周年大会上发表重要讲话
China holds a grand gathering to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the country’s reform and opening-up at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Dec. 18, 2018. With more than 3,000 attending at the event, President Xi said that reform and opening-up is a great revolution in the history of the Chinese people and the Chinese nation. He also told all Chinese officials to be ready to face upcoming challenges and make the road clear for further reform and progress.
The journey of reform and opening-up formally began in December 1978 under the initiative of Deng Xiaoping. With the new political system established in China in 1949 under the leadership of Mao Zedong, it created the ground for political stability and order. Next important step was the initiative of leader Deng in 1978.
The journey of reform and opening-up actually began in two stages. First stage was the period of late 1970s and mid of the 1980s, creating environment for foreign investment and changing rules and laws to promote business. The second important stage began from late 1980s and early 1990s, which encouraged government and private enterprises.
At his speech Xi said all that economic reform will continue and China wants to contribute for global economy. When we look back at the reform and opening-up, China has succeeded in uplifting 740 million people out of poverty in the last 40 years.
In his speech Xi also took opportunity to talk on world peace and development. He stressed China’s role in promoting peace and development in the world over the past 40 years. He said China’s development has provided successful experience and offered the cause a bright prospect for other developing countries. At the time of uncertainties in the world, Xi’s speech has succeeded in making certain that China will further contribute to world’s progress, peace and harmony.
