如何真实测试孩子的外语水平?美国一老师的做法值得借鉴

Seventeen Cache Valley elementary school students studying Portuguese got to put their skills to the ultimate test during a visit to Jaú, Brazil. Parents said they were impressed with their children’s fluency in the language, relying on their skills to do everything from ordering food to getting money from ATMs.
Stacy Blauer, a third-grade teacher at Sunrise School, had the idea to organize a trip to Brazil to let students test the skills they learned more than two years ago. On June 10, lots of planning and hoping came true as Sunrise students, along with students from Hillcrest and Mount Logan Middle School, traveled to Brazil to practice their Portuguese. “We improved our accents a lot just listening to them talk,” said 12-year-old Brevin Egbert, a Sunrise School student who went on the trip.
Students had the chance to practice their language skills while learning about Brazilian culture. Several students said they would remember how friendly the people they met in Brazil were. Even though they had to go to school at 7:30 a.m., an hour and 45 minutes earlier than they attend school in the U.S., they were excited to continue their summer school experience.
When the group left Jaú for the last time to do some sightseeing in Rio de Janeiro, many of the students were sad to go. Skylee Haramoto, 12, was struck by how safe and welcome she felt in Jaú. “I know that my parents were so worried about it because you see the bad stuff, like on the news, so they were all thinking, ‘You might get robbed’,” Haramoto said. “You think there are all these bad people. But then when you go, they’re so amazing. They’re so nice and accepting.”
