Malala Yousafzaiwho was born 12 July 1997,  is a Pakistani school pupil, education activist and winner of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. She is from Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. She is known for her activism for rights to education and for women, especially in the Swat Valley, where the local Taliban had at times banned girls from attending school.

In early 2009, at the age of 11–12, Yousafzai wrote a blog for the BBC. She described her life under Taliban occupation, their attempts to take control of the valley, and her views on encouraging education for girls in the Swat Valley. This made her well known. On the afternoon of 9 October 2012, Malala was attacked on the school bus in the northwest Pakistani district of Swat. One bullet hit the left side of Malala's forehead, traveled under her skin the length of her face and then into her shoulder. In the days following the attack, she remained unconscious and in critical(危急的) condition, but later was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England, where she got recovered gradually.

The assassination(刺杀) attempt sparked a national and international support for Yousafzai. United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown launched a UN request in Yousafzai's name, using the slogan "I am Malala". The request demanded that all children worldwide be in school by the end of 2015. In the 29 April 2013 issue of Time magazine, Yousafzai’s picture was used on the magazine's front cover and she was elected as one of "The 100 Most Influential People in the World". She then became the winner of Pakistan's first National Youth Peace Prize.

On 10 October 2014, Yousafzai was announced as the winner of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for her struggle against the suppression(刺杀) of children and young people and for the right of all children to education. At age 17, Yousafzai is the youngest Nobel winner ever. She is the second Pakistani to receive a Nobel Prize, Abdus Salam being a 1979 Physics Prize recipient.

Yousafzai shares the prize with Kailash Satyarthi of India, 60, who has spent a lifetime working against child slavery and exploitation.
