A 7-year-old’s letter to Santa asking for a blanket and food has brought in hundreds of donations(捐赠) to help her and other poor children at her school in Edinburg, Texas.

When Monte Cristo Elementary teacher Ruth Espiricueta asked her first-grade students to write letters to Santa, she wasn’t expecting what would happen next. One student, Crystal Pachecho, asked Santa only for food, a blanket and a ball for her brothers to play with. “After the kids were gone for the day, I sat down to read the letters,” she said. That’s when she noticed Crystal’s request.

“It just really broke my heart,” said Espiricueta, who was surprised that Crystal had such needs. “She’s always so happy.” Espiricueta posted the heartbreaking Christmas list on her Facebook page, not expecting what would happen next.

In just a few days, the school has received around 900 blankets and they are still coming in. Blankets have come from as far away as New Zealand and Germany — a global response to a young girl’s simple letter to the North Pole.

1.Which grade is Crystal in?

A Grade 1.

B Grade 2.

C Grade 3.

D Grade 4.

解析:选A。 When Monte Cristo Elementary teacher Ruth Espiricueta asked her first-grade students to write letters to Santa, she wasn’t expecting what would happen next.

2.Who does the underlined word “she” refer to?

A Crystal Pachecho.

B Ruth Espiricueta.

C Santa Claus.

D Crystal’s mother.

After the kids were gone for the day, I sat down to read the letters可知这句话是叫学生写下圣诞愿望的老师Espiricueta说的,因此此处的she指代的是Espiricueta,故选B。

3.Why did Espiricueta feel surprised at Crystal’s request?

A Crystal asked for too much.

B Crystal asked for something cheap.

C Crystal looks always happy but is short of food.

D Crystal believed Santa Claus and wrote to him.

根据第三段“It just really broke my heart,” said Espiricueta, who was surprised that Crystal had such needs. “She’s always so happy.”

4.How did people know about Crystal’s needs?

A Through the Internet.

B On the TV news.

C In the newspaper.

D On the radio.

解析:选A。 Espiricueta posted the heartbreaking Christmas list on her Facebook page not expecting what would happen next.

5.What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A New Zealand is located in the North Pole.

B Most blankets were sent from the North Pole.

C Crystal got more blankets than food.

D People around the world were helping the girl.

根据最后一段的...has received around 900 blankets, are still coming in, a global response可知给Crystal寄毯子的人很多,来自世界各个地方的人都在帮助她,故选D。
