Allen Cook and his daughter Melissa were repairing ther house when they found a letter in the wall. What they discovered turned out to be part of a beautiful, warming love story.
The envelope was old and yellow. It had never been opened. They were amazed when Allen Cook’s son-in-law started reading it. The story began in 1949. The letter was written by a woman named Virginia to her husband Rolf Christoffersen. At that time, he was a sailor in the Norwegian navy(海军).
The envelope was marked "return to sender" and never found its way to her husband until this week. Allen’s daughter used the Internet to find the phone number of someone named Rolf Christoffersen and gave him a call, leading her to his son in California.
The younger Christoffersen, 66, wasn’t yet born when his mother wrote the letter, but he says her words are very special to him. His mother wrote about her love for her husband. "I love you Rolf, as I love the warm sun, and that is what you are for my life," she wrote. Christoffersen called his father at once, who is now 96, and read the letter to him over the phone. Seventy-two years later, her words were finally heard by her husband. "I was so surprised after all these years. I was very happy to find out that a letter like that existed. I am still very excited," the elder Christoffersen said.
The long-lost letter is believed to have fallen into a crack(缝隙) in the wall of the house by accident, where Christoffersen used to live.

1.What is TRUE about the letter?

A It was found by Allen’s daughter and son.

B It was a love letter written by Rolf Christoffersen.

C It was sent to a sailor in the navy.

D It contained Virginia’s love to her husband.

2.Who was the letter written for?

A Allen Cook.

B Virginia.

C Elder Christoffersen.

D Younger Christoffersen.

The letter was written by a woman named Virginia to her husband Rolf Christoffersen.

3.Why hadn’t the letter been opened?

A Because it was lost in the crack.

B Because the writer didn’t send it.

C Because it was returned to the sender.

D Because it was hidden by the writer.

The envelope was marked “return to sender” and never found its way to her husband until this week.

4.How old was Rolf Christoffersen in 1949?

A 24.

B 66.

C 72.

D 96.

解析:选A。 Christoffersen called his father at once, who is now 96, and read the letter to him over the phone. Seventy-two years later, her words were finally heard by her husband.

5.What can we learn from this passage?

A Rolf Christoffersen cried sadly when he heard the letter.

B Rolf Christoffersen once lived in Allen Cook’s house.

C The letter expressed Rolf Christoffersen’s love to Virginia.

D The son went to his father and read the letter for him.

The long-lost letter is believed to have fallen into a crack in the wall of the house by accident, where the Christoffersen used to live.
