The 13th National Students Sports Games of the People's Republic of China opened with a fantastic ceremony(仪式) in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang Province on Sept 3.
With the help of the Ministry of Education, the General Administration of Sport of China and the Communist Youth League Center(共青团), this year's Student Sports Games brings together college and middle school students for the first time.
The opening ceremony was made up of three parts: speeches, cultural performances and a lighting ceremony. Liu Yandong, State Council Vice Premier, announced(宣布) the opening. More than 1,000 students from 12 schools in Zhejiang show seven performances, including singing and dancing. Students from Hangzhou Xincheng Experimental Primary School performed basketball skills. Meng Guanliang from Zhejiang's Shaoxing city, China's first Olympic canoeing champion, lighted the flame.
Over the following 13 days, a total of 5,966 members from around the country will compete in 10 different sports, including athletics, basketball, football, volleyball, table tennis, gymnatics and swimming.
