207 people died from the massive mudslide(泥石流) on Sunday. The disaster destroyed the whole city of Mocoa, Putumayo, in southwest Colombia. As many as 43 children were among the deaths of Saturday’s disaster. The disaster was caused by heavy rain on Friday night that raised water levels in three rivers, bringing in a lot of mud.

Santos, the Colombian President, returned to the site of the disaster to direct the recovery efforts, and he said, "I have come to help give out aid materials, and to begin to rebuild". At least 300 families in the town of 43,700 people were left homeless.

The ministers of Mining and Energy, Transport, Interior, and Housing were together with Santos to recover the basic services more quickly. “We are fixing bridges and at the same time speeding up construction, the structural part: energy, water and housing. The idea is to make Mocoa better than it was before,” said Santos. The president’s wife, Maria Clemencia Rodriguez, was together with him too, to direct the aid for children affected by the landslide.

Officials have identified(确认) at least 85 deaths, but an unknown number of people were still missing, making it the death number will likely continue to rise.
