A new study says the growing need of the popularity（普及）of Western diet could make climate change worse. In Western diet, people eat more meat as their diet, so it will be very difficult to reduce greenhouse gas emissions（排放）.

It says that the global population may grow to over nine billion by 2050. And as the population rises, so does the need for more food. The need for meat is rising especially fast. For many people meat does taste exciting. It tastes different. Increasing livestock production also causes a large amount of greenhouse gas to release from the animals themselves. What people choose to eat is the main reason to cause greenhouse gas to release. The study encourages people to eat more vegetables instead of meat. 

Today the Western diet has become fashionable. Many studies have warned that the Western food has high fat, sugar and salt. That is bad for our health. But the new study finds that eating Western food is also bad for the earth, not just for our body. It says that the rising of the food production will affect land use. Using more land for food production carries a “high price.” Cutting trees, for example, would cause greater carbon（碳）release into the air. And the rising of food production will also make more methane（甲烷；沼气）release.
