If you are planning on booking some flights over Christmas or to see in the New Year overseas, don’t book on a Friday. New research has revealed that prices of tickets booked on this day can be as much as 13 percent more than if you wait a couple of days and book on a Sunday.

The study shows that there is a reason why Friday is the more expensive. Most analyses will show low air ticket prices on weekend days because these are the days which most leisure travellers buy tickets. Business travel, on the other hand, is most often bought during the week and has a higher air ticket price on average.

Last year, Tuesday was found to be the best day to get the best deals on flights. However, research this year found that trend might have changed. While advance booking is a key aspect for determining when travellers should buy a ticket, it is not the only factor to consider.

For years, travellers and industry experts have wondered which day produces the best savings. In previous reports, studies have suggested that Tuesday is the best day, by a small margin(幅度). Looking at 2016 and based upon 2015 data, researching companies Expedia and ARC found that on average, weekends provide an opportunity to find great deals, with Tuesday still close behind. The booking habits of 10 billion air passengers were used in the study.

Greg Schulze, senior vice president, global tour and transport, at Expedia, said,“Analysing these massive data sets with our partners at ARC gives us smart insights that we can pass along to travellers. And travellers benefit because even small, simple insights in the booking process—what time of year or day of week to book, for example—can yield significant savings.”

Chuck Thackston, managing director of enterprise information at ARC added, “Expedia, armed with ARC’s global ticketing data, provides the best knowledge about the state of air travel offering valuable insights for leisure and business travellers to use when booking flights.”
