据报道,伦敦人最容易丢失电子产品

As is reported, people in London are twice as likely to have an electronic device, such as a laptop, mobile phone or tablet stolen than those in the rest of the country.

Of 290,651 thefts involving computer equipment reported by police forces across the UK, 42 per cent were reported by the Metropolitan Police. In total, thefts of electronic devices such as computers, smartphones and tablets(平板电脑)accounted for 34 per cent of all thefts in London, compared to 17 per cent for the rest of the country.

Individuals were found to be at much greater risk of theft than organizations. Only six per cent of thefts of electronic goods in London were reported by a public or private sector organization.

This was proven in the specific types of theft, where crimes such as burglary(入室盗窃) (18,333 cases), theft from the person (31,156 cases) and robbery (12,624 cases) resulted in far more electronic equipment being stolen than, for example, shoplifting (2,043 cases).

“There are several reasons why London may have reported such a high rate of theft of electronic goods,” said Chris McIntosh, chief executive of ViaSat UK, “Firstly, as the wealthiest and most crowded area of the country, there will be far more opportunities to take these items. Second, the nature of people’s work and travel within the city means that they will both be carrying computers, tablets or smartphones more often and also be more at risk of theft when they do so."

He added that people are living more and more of their lives electronically and online, so the amount of important information held on computers, smartphones and tablets is increasing exponentially. As a result, having such a device stolen isn’t simply a loss in itself – it increasingly opens up the potential of data theft and illegal use.

"Our advice is simple," said McIntosh. "If you live in London, work in London, are travelling to London, or are doing business with London-based people, either make sure that personal data is protected or avoid sharing it.”
