The U.S.A. said a new GM(转基因)potato is OK to eat. McDonald's will not use it. A potato company said the new potatoes don’t have much sugar. The company also said the new potatoes are healthy and won’t make people get ill easily. McDonald's said it will not buy the new potatoes. The potato company did not say anything about McDonald's.

French fries(炸土豆片)are popular around the world, especially in fast food restaurants. French fried potatoes started in 1856. A little later, 'French fried' meant 'deep-fried(油炸)'. People say French fries come from Belgium(比利时). Some people think they used the word 'French' after U.S. soldiers went to Europe during World War I.
