A Longquan, Sichuan Province security guard who made up a story about being abducted and robbed on pay day told police he wanted to avoid telling his wife that he had long been fired.
The man surnamed Wen called 110 operators early on August 3 claiming he was robbed of his 3,000 yuan ($441) monthly salary.
Wen’s tale begins with him riding his motorcycle when a white car forced him to stop outside a courier company. Three men armed with knives turned up. Among them was a former coworker, surnamed Li. The men threatened him, took away his 3,000 yuan and then took him back to the courier company.
Police questioned Li, who not only denied the accusation, but also said Wen owed him 5,000 yuan he had borrowed earlier this year.
Wen then admitted he had made up the story to hide his unemployment(失业) from his wife. To keep up appearances, Wen pretended to go to work for the past month.
He was given five days in police detention for filing a false police report.
