It is 2024 now. 25-year-old Onodu Onyebuchi Emmanuel from Nigeria got a warm welcome at Jilin Provincial People’s Hospital in Changchun, Jilin province. He is a medical intern (实习生) in this hospital. He was very careful with his patients.
Onodu has been interested in Chinese culture since his childhood. “I also heard about traditional Chinese medicine before I arrived in China,” he said. “So I decided to go to China after graduating from high school.” Luckily, his dream came true. Onodu began his studies at Changchun University of Chinese Medicine in 2016. The university, founded 66 years ago, is a center for education, research, medical care and cultural exchanges in Jilin, especially Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In 2022, Onodu began his postgraduate (研究生) studies at the university.
Onodu likes Traditional Chinese Medicine a lot. He often asks his teachers and friends for advice on studying acupuncture and massage (针灸推拿). “I’ve got better at speaking Chinese during the process,” he said. “I wish I could make a better study of TCM.”
“I want people in my country to get more help from Traditional Chinese Medicine,” he said. “On my return, I will try my best to make TCM popular in Africa.”
