It is 2024. Filip is 13 years old. He found a plastic (塑料的) duck on a beach in the Orkney Islands. He thought it was just a duck toy. But it turns out, this little duck has an interesting history.
Filip and his mother Marion took a close look. They found out it had been missing for nearly 20 years! It disappeared during a big duck race in Ireland in 2006. Marion said, “It said ‘world record duck race, Ireland 2006’. After so many years in the sea, it still has its number on the back!”
Back in 2006, people in Dublin, Ireland, tried to set a world record for the biggest plastic duck race. They put about 150,000 ducks in the River Liffey, hoping they would travel one mile (英里). But this duck went much further — about 423 miles! It ended up on Stronsay, one of Scotland’s remote islands in Orkney.
