A mother in east China went above and beyond to celebrate her son’s birthday at school—but her son’s adorable reaction took her by surprise. The loving mother in Dezhou, Shandong province decided to surprise her son by dressing up in a cartoon bear costume and bringing him a cake during class.
To her astonishment, the boy immediately recognized her mother by her hands and ran to give her a big hug. The heart-warming video filmed on Monday shows the mother in a blue bear suit walking towards her son’s classroom with a birthday cake in her hand.
After passing the cake to the teacher, she goes into the classroom to celebrate her birthday with the other children. “Look who’s here!” the teacher called out to the boy.
His classmates then sung Happy Birthday to the boy before he suddenly turned around and said, “Teacher, this is my mum!” The teacher asked, “How do you know?” “I recognize her hands!” the boy replied with great confidence.
The surprised mother then showed her face by removing the giant head of the bear and the happy boy jumped into her arms. “I didn’t expect him to recognize me at all,” the mother, Liu, told video news site Pear. “I was so touched that I cried!”
Many net users were moved by the video, which has been viewed more than 4.6 million times on social media. “You wouldn’t be able to recognize your mother by her hands if you didn’t truly love her!” one user said. “Such a lovely kid,” another said. “This is so heart-warming. Your child actually loves you more than you think!”
