During the Lantern Festival, all places in China are decorated with lanterns(灯笼). People will go to the streets to enjoy the beautiful lantern show.
On Feb. 28, three foreigners arrived at No 1. Middle School of Dongying District in Shandong Province to get a taste of Chinese traditional folk customs(风俗).
The Lantern Festival is a Chinese festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar Chinese calendar. It marks(标志) the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations.
As early as the Western Han Dynasty, it had become a festival with great significance(意义). During the Lantern Festival, children go out at night to temples(寺庙) carrying paper lanterns and solve riddles(谜) on the lanterns.
Sun Mingbo, a teacher of the middle school, introduced the cultural background of Lantern Festival first to the foreigners, and then the main customs of the festival.
