The camel was “a symbol of Saudi Arabia”. People used to keep it out of necessity(出于必要), now we keep it as a pastime.
The camel beauty contest was first held in 2000. Thousands of camels take part in the beauty contest at the Camel Festival. Camels are judged(评判) on their lips and humps(驼峰). Camels’ ears, noses and mouths are also important parts. The festival also includes camel racing and camel milk tasting. The winner can get $57 million.
There are strict rules. Camels are banned(禁止) to use drugs in the lips or shaves(剃毛). But some owners were cheating(作弊) for the money.
Before the festival, a vet had been caught using Botox(肉毒杆菌) and reducing the size of their ears.
Twelve prized camels have been disqualified(取消资格) because their owners tried to tweak(微调) their good looks with Botox. It was reported that Botox was used for the lips, the nose and even the jaw.
